Taiwan Trip April 2012 - Last day in Kenting, and back to Jhongli. One last look at our hotel/hostel in Kenting. Really miss this place already. The family who run it were really nice and extremely helpful with everything. We really lucked out with this place, and if I’m ever in Kenting again, I’d definitely go back here. We also lucked out with breakfast that morning, finding a place that serves an “american breakfast”, rather than the usual KFC/Mcdonalds we had previously (since other places aren’t open that early in the morning). While waiting for the bus, it started pouring rain. Our bus never came, so we were lucky enough to get a taxi, and head back to THSR. It was crazy the amount of rain that was coming down as we closed in on the THSR. It literally felt like we were suck in a waterfall or something, as both of us had never seen that much rain before. The weather in Taiwan was quite unpredictable at times, but I would say we were pretty lucky to have really good weather during our stay in Kenting.

Taiwan Trip April 2012 - Night market part deux. Ate a bunch of different food at the night market. Too busy eating and walking, not enough picture taking. Kenting’s night market is pretty small, so after a few rounds up and down the block, we were ready to call it a night. I’m still really curious as to how different Taipei’s night market is. I’m looking forward to finding out, once I’m back in Taiwan.

Taiwan Trip April 2012 - Beach #3. The water here was super clear, a lot clearer than at beach #2, which makes me wish we had swam here instead. There were a lot more people out at this beach too I feel. There was also a team of guys playing some sort of dodgeball game next to the ocean, which was really funny to see, and at the same time I was secretly hoping that I would not get hit with the ball as we walked passed them, to the other side of the beach. Since it was much later on in the day, we didn’t decide to go swimming again, especially since we were planning on going up to this other place afterwards to watch the sun set. Instead we walked around this beach for a while to take photos, before heading off to our final destination for the day.

Taiwan Trip April 2012 - Beach #2. The beaches of Kenting are really nice. After stopping back at our hostel to change and get some extra things, we drove over to the beach on our scooter. Heading over to the south-west side of Kenting, we actually spent a good amount of time at this beach. Many people were out in the ocean, swimming and playing games with their friends. It was actually my first time swimming in the ocean too! Lots of water time explains the lack of photos that I have at this place. It was still a lot of fun, and definitely makes for good memories. Still shocked that Eugene managed to dunk me under water. But I guess I got him back by making him give me a piggy back ride back to shore, although he seemed like he really wanted to carry me that time. I don’t know if it’s because he wanted to try to dunk me under water again… =/ 

Taiwan Trip April 2012 - Southern most point! We decided we’d head further down south for the day, and then work our way back up. Our little day trip was highly dependant on whether or not we could rent a scooter. Thankfully we were able to get one! 50cc! Yeah! Much better than that dinky battery powered one that died on us the night before. Once we got there, we realized there wasn’t too much to see or do. The view was pretty, but after we finished taking a few photos, we headed off towards our next destination. Sadly, I don’t remember the name of this place. I’ll have to ask Eugene, since I’m sure he knows. On our way back to our scooter, we saw a dad and his kid riding uphill on one of those batter powered ones, and it was going incredibly slow. We were extremely glad we weren’t stuck with driving one of those things again.

Taiwan Trip April 2012 - Around the night market. Food and drinks were had over at Amy’s Cucina. We heard it was a popular place, but for the price, I think we both thought the food could have been better. It wasn’t anything special. My drink was pretty yummy at least. Wandered around the night market a bit more before heading back to our place.

Taiwan Trip April 2012 - Beach #1. One of the first things we did down in Kenting, other than wander around looking for a place to rent a scooter, was go to the beach! There was one relatively near to where we were staying. I think this beach actually belonged to one of the resort hotels that were further down the street, but that didn’t stop us from checking it out and getting our feet wet. Beautiful weather. On our walk back, the night market was starting to come alive.

Taiwan Trip April 2012 - Kenting! Our hostel/hotel was really cool, and the family who run it were super helpful with everything, from picking us up when we made a wrong turn looking for the hostel, to pointing out places for us to check out during our stay. I’m really glad we stayed there. They also have a really cute dog that followed me around, while Eugene conversed with the hostel owners. It’s a good thing he can speak chinese, because I’ve forgotten everything I’ve learned in Chinese class. One nice thing, I can still read and understand “我在垦丁“ but I have no idea what the rest of that little wooden board says. Or maybe I’m reading the board wrong… ? haha.

Taiwan Trip April 2012 - THSR. Making our way to Kenting via THSR, the train ride was a good 2 hours. Here’s hoping for some good weather~!
